You have a system table called "datacheck" (or something) with a field
called "lastdeleted"

So a logins in and as part of that login routine, you do;

SELECT lastdelete FROM datacheck

Then check (however you're doing it) the lastdelete date to see if it's
today. If it is, then just carry on, if it's yesterday then you know you
need to run your routine to do the delete.

Once you've run the delete routine, simply do=20

UPDATE datacheck SET lastdelete =3D getdate() (or now() or whatever =
you're
using for your RDBMS)

Person A logs in.
Checks to see when the system last checked
If it was "today" then just move on
Otherwise delete the old files and set the "last checked" flag.

Person B then logs in 10 mins later
Checks to see when the system last checked
It is today, so just move on

Etc. etc.

Hi,
I am writing a timesheet at the moment and I want to make sure that
noting over 5 years old is kept on the database. The only way I can
think of is going through and deleting everything over five years old
every time someone logs in to the system which could be more than once a
day. especially on a Friday. Can anyone think of a way of only doing it
once a day please.
