trouble with thead is that it will be anchored to the table it is part

Linux IS usable as a dev platform, I found Mandrake 8.1 a doddle, even with
a Prophet4500 graphics card.
Driver support on the whole is pretty good, as is KDE etc, main thing I use

If its a laptop with an ATI based card on it then you can download the
drivers for it. Had this once on a Compaq, changed the drivers and was

You can fix the position of elements using CSS.
position: fixed;

Then you could set the z-order property to make it the top most element.
