More like desperately trying to distract myself from rebuilding the software
on my flatmate's girlfriend's Toshiba laptop.
1. They claim it was infected by a trojan placed there by a hacker who would
type 'he he he' on their screen whenever they went online.
2. They have no CDs to re-install anything
3. The keyboard is bilingual English/Japanese. It was an adventure finding
the backslash and colon keys.
4. Right now Windows 98SE is installed but occupying about 40 percent of the
available screen. In other words, I'm missing video drivers.
5. The boot process produces a string of errors of things like vnetbios.vxd
could not be found and etc. So I'm digging through the Tosh web site trying
to find the appropriate drivers for this model.
6. this sort of experience does nothing to convince me that I was in error
when I chose the Macintosh way many years ago.
Now would you like me to look up something in that dictionary - like
psychopath - because that'll be a good description of my mental state by the
time I'm finished this little charity job.
