It's occured to me before now that maybe a lot of the remaining 0.6% or so

I've switched to vuescan ( http://www.hamrick.com ) for my vistascan scanner rather than the
Umax drivers. Vuescan has versions for 9.x and osx. Umax aren't upgrading their drivers.
