I'd have to agree to a certain extent - pop-ups can be mostly irritating
and I'd generally steer a client away from them - however, in this
particular case, the pop-ups serve a genuine purpose to publicise
one-off/special events - it's an historic building and visitors to the
site may be going there to check on facilities for weddings, tourism,
banqueting, etc - and it may not necessarily occur to them that there's
a firework/music concert coming up in 4 months time. There will be
upcoming events on the front page of the revised site, but the pop-ups
are required for 'special' events (i.e. fireworks and music rather than
a craft fair!)
