I thought I was fairly restrained for someone who's down £440 he never
spent (and can't afford to spend), even if it will get refunded (touch
wood).

Not an 'F-word' in sight.

Apologies if my harsh tones upset the delicate ears of the forum's
members; who--it seems--must live under the stars amongst the buffalo,
and aren't normally exposed to such discouraging words.

And especially considering then vendor has still not been in touch after
2.5 hours, 2 emails and 2 faxes later. Do they not care they are being
defrauded?
