Its probably just wearing in, I've an old Vr6 lump in a MK2 golf that's
done over 120,000 and its still sweet as a sweet thing swimming in full
fat coke.

OK. We're getting a new car. Well, not brand new, I'm not *that* stupid.
We're getting a new second-hand car. We've been looking at Golfs and I
saw a really nice condition one yesterday. S (98) plate, black,
excellent condition, 1.8GTi (non-turbo) .. with 80,000 miles on the
clock - list price £6990. I thought it wasn't a bad price after the
inevitable (I'll give you six grand, 6700 is the best I can do, six two
then, six six is the lowest I can go, six five if you fill it up and
throw in some mats, deal) malarky got it down to £6500. However I'm the
only one that doesn't think 80,000 miles is much on a 1.8 litre VW Golf.
Am I wrong? Does that sound like a prohibitive mileage figure to you
folks? Should I opt for a Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec with shit-loads of
extras, half the age and mileage, instead ?
