Just to let the list know, I finally heard back from the vendor
concerned stating that their own internal systems had flagged the charge
as fraudulent, and that--although the charge was made--they have already
refunded it (on Monday) and cancelled the order. The bank says it can
take 3-5 days to appear, so--hopefully--by Friday I should have it back
in my account.
Seems like my tale of woe has a happy ending, though I'd still like to
spend 15 minutes alone with whoever carried out the dastardly deed...
The vendor, sadly, wouldn't release any details, though they are passing
mine on to the card company to see if they will help in identifying and
pressing charges on the perp.
The moral of this tale, of course, is to keep an eye on your statements
and be very careful where you use your cards.
