The data will be on the disk still I guess, if you want any chance of
going down that route you'd best shut the machine off now, prevent
over-writing any of it.

No idea how you'd go about retrieving off of an ext2? file system,
short of getting a professional data retrieval company like Vogon
or http://www.datarecoverydirect.co.uk/ to get it back, but they're
not cheap.
