Amen to that. Sounds like they're trying it on... by offering you
substantially less than you want, but not enough to easily reject
outright, they're trying to put you in a difficult position.
As others have remarked, if you go for the smaller amount now, it can
be hard to charge your full rate in the future, because you'll have
set a precedent.

Don't be taken in by promises of future work... nothing's cheaper than
talk. I only give discounts in exchange for purchase orders :-)
