You don't especially *need* cat6 to be able to do gigabit, it will work
fine over cat5.
I'm not sure if cat5 places any restrictions on length etc in this case
that cat6 may overcome.
Anyway, I expect whatis.com or some googling will turn up some definitive
answers.
