I think XP works remarkably well on older machines. I wanted to leave
2000 on an old PII-400 but putting XP-pro on went very well, and with
a little fiddling (turning off unncessary graphics /effects etc - try
TweakUI if you're adventurous) it's pretty fast. Mind you it has a
fair amount (well over 128) of RAM, which is important, but cheap too.
Also remember XP can boot a lot faster than 2000..
