FN-FORUM: CSS Template check and some help needed
date posted 9th January 2004 17:09
OK ppl - here we go - my first ever attempt at a (near) complete CSS
layout - I did cheat a little bit with one table but more of that later.
URL for dev template is:
http://smwebsite.no-ip.com/dev/templates/iodhub.asp
I'm stuck with the overall design - inherited it, but it was a horrid
table based layout and thought I'd give the CSS route a go. Have only
done the version for higher end browsers at the moment.
Tested on IE5.5, IE6, Firebird & NS6.2 on WinXP and Mozilla & Galleon on
Linux. Looked at a grab of it on danvine for Apple Safari.
Overall it works as it should on pretty much everything apart from the
few little bugs listed below. A call for help since I think my head may
explode if I try any more...
Bugs
1. On IE5.5 and to a lesser extent IE6 (both WinXP) there's a slight
indenting of the first paragraph to the left where the sub-menu is. I
know there are problems with the IE box model but I'm b**gered if I can
work it out after about 3 hours of looking at it.
If anyone has any way to fix this I'd be most grateful.
2. When I looked at the Safari grab on danvine, the links in the
menu bar and the sub menu don't seem to follow the padding, i.e. in the
menu bar they seem to justify to the top of the bar.
Unfortunately I don't have an Apple here to do any testing and am still
trying to get my head around the complete CSS thing so again, if anyone
knows a work around that would be fab.
Lastly, not really a bug but I just couldn't get the header to work
without the table so left it there and will display:none for accessible
style sheet. Please don't cane me for using a table here ;-)
Comments/help welcomed for first attempt at complete CSS layout.
Remember I'm stuck with the design though.
Many thanks all
Dominic
