FN-FORUM: Backup Advice
date posted 14th January 2004 10:05
Hi all,
Just thought I'd regail (sp?) you all with my tales of
INNACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE problems. On Saturday evening my sole PC
decided to jimmy up it's primary HDD. Joy. I haven't managed to
recover anything of use from the drive yet but it may well be
recoverable. I've had to revert back to a pre-Christmas backup. I've
lost about a weeks work, email and stuff. Major PITA reporting for
duty. I'm now back up and running after having to buy an emergency
replacement HD on Monday.
So Wednesdays message is (apologies for the CAPS):
1) BACKUP, BACKUP NOW DAMMIT! (OR AT LEAST REGULARLY)
2) WHAT YOU DON'T HAVE ONE?! GO START BACKING UP.
3) RAID IS GOOD, RAID IS YOUR FRIEND. (am buying a RAID setup)
Here endeth the tale of woe.
George
