Ummm, haven't come across the same problem, but
the cookie handling got a bit more feature-rich
in a recent version of IE.

Have you fiddled with settings in Tools->Internet
Options-> Privacy? In particular, turning both 1st and
3rd party cookie settings on to "Prompt" may give you
some clue what's going on.

Alternatively, try the "Web Sites" section of
that tab and add both domains (nice & ugly)
manually and say "allow" next to both of them.

If yours is even slightly different, then I'm sure the
user interface and available options is likely to be
completely different. :-/
