I did not wait for the offer to call the premium rate number or press 9 =
but
the woman on't phone was australian and when I called BT the first thing
they said was "did you press any buttons because if you did then you =
will
have been connected to a premium rate number and you will be charged for =
the
call" they said they were aware of the scam and that is was becoming a
problem.
She also confirmed that it was coming from an overseas number and that =
they
were monitoring the situation.
Seems it's not a hoax or an urban myth afterall
