i think ppl are mistaking Kurosawa's classic 'Shichinin no samurai'
(aka 'Seven Samurai')
that was remade into 'The Magnificent Seven' in the 60's (Clint
Eastwood flick)
The Tom Cruise(sic) flick "The Last Samurai" is very loosely based on
historical events.
In fact, "the last samurai" is not Tom Cruises character at all, as
most seem to think. It is the character Katsumoto who is based on the
historical last Samurai Takamori Saigo...

The only problem with which, IMHO, is that Tom Cruise's character
