It's the right tool for the job, and a core component of Apache, but you
are certainly right to be cautious.

I'll have to withdraw my previous answer that from a browser point of view
it will make no odds
as I have never investigated browser support for "refresh" meta tags.

Hi Ron,

All I am trying to do is have very simple links for a newspaper ad.
The links will then redirect to the more complicated page names/parameters,
which do need to be php pre-processed.

These shortcuts will not be encountered by search engines.

Symbolic links no good as flat page-> php.

Mod -rewrite - no experience with that - hope it's not necessary for this
simple task?
