I got Apache2 and PHP5 (both compiled from source) running just fine on RH9
but I have heard of PHP4 having problems especially with RPM installs.
I can't comment on mod_perl though.

Yup, putting the text in the field would be possible - though you'd lose the
formatting for the document. An intermediate format to consider might be
RTF - this is almost text anyway, thoug...
