FN-FORUM: Network Problems
date posted 1st July 2004 17:31
Hi All,
I'm trying to network two PCs both running Windows XP and can't seem to get
them to see each other.
- Both computers give me notification when I plug the ethernet cable in.
- I get a bytes received figure in the status initially, but after that it
doesn't changed and stays at about 4bytes.
- I've tried pinging the loopback 127.0.0.1 on both computers and it works
ok.
- I've tried pinging each computer from the other and each computer to
itself, and everything fails APART FROM one of the PCs pinging itself.
I've run Microsoft network diagnostics on THE OTHER PC that fails to ping
itself and the bits that fail are as follows:
Microsoft Network Diagnostics, Under Network Adapters:
[00000001] NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller FAILED
+ DNSServerSearchOrder = 10.0.0.2 (FAILED)
Pinging 10.0.0.2 with 32 bytes of data:
Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.
Ping statistics for 10.0.0.2:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)
+ IPAddress = 192.168.0.1 (FAILED)
Pinging 192.168.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Ping statistics for 192.168.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)
Device Manager states that the network adapter controller is working ok.
Has anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks
Rob
