Set up a mail server! ;) (among other things)
Basically, I have been paying a hosting company for the last year, and I
decided, as much for experience as anything else, that I should be able
to do everything that the company was providing me. Obviously it will be
a slower connection, but I think that simply having, in effect, a
dedicated server is worth that sacrifice. Like I said, more for
experience than practical use.
So it's RH9 on a home network with a wireless router. I was fairly
surprised that I got that working! I have got the web server, the FTP
server, the mySQL server, SSH server (basically, all the easy bits). But
now I am left with the mail server, and also applying a domain name to
the server. So from what I have worked out so far, I need to set name
servers, then I need to try and set up the mail client...?
I have now gone into 123-reg and pointed a domain at the network, so
will wait and see what effect that has, but I think I need to set up
BIND or something...?
I would prefer to use the software that is already installed (or on the
discs). From experience this seems to be the far easier / more
successful method.
I have been reading through http://www.siliconvalleyccie.com which seems
to be an excellent tutorial type thing, but still not sure how to set up
my mail server.
So, any help would be much apreciated. :)
Thanks,
Joe.
