FN-FORUM: Debain apt-get how ?
date posted 4th August 2004 23:25
Evening,
Though I'd have a go at playing with Debian as a possible
replacement for redhat on a couple of servers but got a bit
stuck...........
Running woody but wanted to install xmail out of testing
1st mistake........
Found in google that it works from the .deb package
2nd mistake (google's not my friend today)...
Downloaded the .deb package and ran dpkg -i xmail............deb
Failed due to package dependancies not installed. okay
BUT now cant remove it or do apt-get update etc...
Everything end with error
Removing xmail......
No override present.
dpkg: error processing xmail (--purge) :
subprocess post-removal script returned error status 2.
Tried reinstalling, forcing, purge clean etc etc no progress...
As far as I can see all the files have been removed so is there
a way to make debian forget all about it.
RPM hell was never this bad !!
Thanks.
Ken
