FN-FORUM: win98/xp networking
date posted 10th August 2004 21:46
Hi All,
I'm having to fault find a page on a site that only appears to fail using
IE6 on Windows 98. To that end, I've re-instated an old machine on my small
network to run Win 98SE and share the XP Pro machines internet connection.
When the old machine was first powered up it had IE 5.0 on it and it
connected to the internet, no problem. I then ran Windows Update from it
just to download IE 6. This all happened nicely. Now I can't get either
machine to see the other. I've been at it 5 hours now trying all sorts of
stuff and am no nearer. They both have the same workgroup name, both set to
use DHCP (the wireless router is the DHCP host), both have TCP/IP bound to
their respective adapters. One can't ping the other, yet both port lights
are up on the router.
Anyone any ideas, something simple I've overlooked, or am I trying to do the
impossible?
TIA
Craig
