The best value for money graphics card wise at present is probably an
ATI radeon 9800 pro, set you back somewhere between 110 and 150 pounds
depending on the brand/features. And if you're lucky, you'll get one
thats flashable to a 9800XT. :)
If you want something cheaper, then maybe a 9600XT at around 100 pounds.
In the end, going to come down to how much you want to spend and how
much time you're prepared to spend tweaking your system. To give you an
example. I have 512meg of ram, XP2500 barton, and a 9800pro. Doom 3's
auto detect recommends 640x480 and medium graphics settings. But if
you're willing to mess around and streamline your system, can run it at
1024x768 and high settings quite nicely.

Btw, I think Doom 3 is a waste of money anyway. :)
