Without sounding all mercenary you need to look at putting a=20
sponsorship proposal together for potential sponsors. Your sponsors=20
need either a personal connection or affinity to the charity or can see=20=
at least a small benefit of sponsorship.
You will need to think about raising public awareness of your event and=20=
get into the media as much as possible. Get in touch with all the media=20=
outlets (local tv press magazines and radio)
Don't phone 1 local paper phone them all!
They will probably bite your hand off for little interesting stories.=20
check that when they do a piece you can mention sponsors.
Hopefully you will now have a media schedule to go to potential=20
sponsors with!
Make sure yuo get friendly with a local printers so that you can get=20
sponsors logos done free or cheap.
Biggest thing would be to try to borrow a canoe like what you are going=20=
to use (or at least kit and paddle as you will hopefully be getting=20
plenty of photos with sponsors logos on your kit/canoe
Don't forget many larger companies use sponsorship stories in their=20
internal magazines.
Another Idea would be to offer your services in return for sponsorship=20=
by putting something together for their web site if they have one or=20
offering a simple site in return for sponsorship.
This might help you in the future with paid work. Just think how many=20
small local business might need a small bit of web work for =A3100-=A3200=20=
if it is for a good cause!
Hope the above helps I did most of this helping my other half who plays=20=
wheelchair basketball for GB and does not get any funding from the=20
sports bodies and is off to Athens shortly.
