Is it cost effective to purchase the modem once you land out there?

Subject: FN-FORUM: ADSL in China
Hi All
This possibly wins most bizzard post of the day but...
I need to get an ADSL ethernet modem - Ideally a DLink 300T - take it to
China and get it working with a chinese ADSL connection.
Spoke to Dlink and they think a UK model may work out there (obviously
with a power plug converter) but they're not sure and can't advise past
that.
Anyone know where I could order a Chinese ADSL modem from in the UK? Or
does anyone know if taking a UK model out there would actually work?
Another quick question - Anyone know where I could maybe pick up Chinese
PC leads (kettle leads)?
Thought I'd ask in the totally unlikely event that anyone has done
something similar!
Paul
