guy i used to work with can out geek you all... he was at stanford or
somewhere in the 70's and worked down the hall from core unix hackers.
so before there were help files you'd go knock on the door of the guy
who wrote whatever was broken, and if it was sufficiently broken you'd
leave him to rewrite chunks of it overnight, while you went to a

indeed. recompiling kernels and suchlike is completely and utterly
over-rated.
