yea, some of those links are cool... (especially like 'bullet madness')
but i'm not really after icon designers or their collections - i'm more
interested in HCI guidelines type of stuff of publicly accepted images
- the icons that are embedded in peoples psyches as meaning something -
such as a magnifying glass for 'search'...
maybe i'm searching for something that doesn't exist yet - and need to
figure it out myself!
there must have been some study somewhere on this though.
the apple HCI guidelines are a good start:

but once again, they are primarily concerned with stuff ('nouns?')
rather than verbs - such as Get, FInd, Search, Register ...
which is what I'm after.
