Re: FN-FORUM: VPN setup guide and PC support in Herts?

The guide you need depends on what your server and Internet connection setup
is and how many concurrent connections there will be. If you are not using
ISA server, the best bet is the guide produced by the manufacturer of the
router, firewall or VPN device, or VPN client.
If you have a domestic-type router, you may need to buy some better kit (eg
Cisco, Sonicwall, Watchguard).
If you don't have a static ip address (from your ISP) at the server end,
you'll need to use a service like dyndns.org. You don't need a static ip at
the client end. But you do need to make sure that the remote workers are on
a different subnet (if they have a home network) from the one used at the
office.
If the staff working remotely have Windows 2000 or XP PCs, you can probably
use Windows built-in PPTP client or IPSEC policies. If your hardware doesn't
support that, you'll need a client on each remote PC. The hardware
manufacturer will sell or recommend one. Best if everyone uses the same
thing.
The other thing is to make sure that you have policies in place for remote
workers to deal with AV software, firewalls etc as they could trash your
entire network from their home PCs...
