Not a simple solution but one more techy people might be interested in
is never losing things again and having access to them where ever you
are and on all machines.
I am currently moving most of my home directory into subversion and have
moved loads of other bits and pieces into my imap server (such as news
and stuff using rss2email)
Now everything is in order and where ever I am I can get exactly the
same infomation. This is to replace previous attempts that always got
ditched because they are too complex (cvs, rsync, nfs, and samba have
been tried in the past).
As I use email and I use svn (for larger projects) this adds no
complexity to my day. Most of the leg work is done by cron. I planned
on moving everything onto an imap server early last year but changed my
hosting and moved things around but now I am using a couple of laptops
with ssh, remote X, svn and imap and all the hardcore machines are
stashed away somewhere the noise won't send me mad (have you ever heard
the noise of ultra sparcs, alpha servers and intel based stuff piled up?)
now I can swap and change tools whenever I feel a change is in order and
not lose track of any single piece of info.
