FN-FORUM: linux desktop

Thinking about moving to linux again.
so, what's your favorite and why?
I tried Xandros and it's a bit limited (I used the free bit torrent
version - which is one step behind I think)
I tried the live Ubuntu and got bored waiting for stuff, and the live
Mandrake doesn't have Firefox.
If you were going to do web dev work on a linux desktop, which distro
would you use?
(gentoo won't install on my machine, so that's out)
looking for easy to install, easy to update and something that might be
able to provide all the applications I might need for WebDev work.
I've looked at the wiki and briefly scanned the Linuxiso pages. I think
what I'm looking for here is to hear from those of you using Linux for
everyday use, and which distros have the apps i need.
looking for at least: openoffice, Gimp, Firefox. would be great to have a
scanning app, PIM and IRC as well. would be keen to find one that has an
easy application installer.
Ideas anyone?
(I'll write it up for the wiki.... promise)
cheers all.
;o)
