FN-FORUM: Bloomin Access

date posted 24th January 2005 18:22

So I'm working late today, to make up the 4 hours I
missed on Friday after going home cos of the nose, and
to make up for not being in at all this Wednesday for
job interview.

It's lovely and quiet, though the front doors close at
7, so I'll have to scoot in a bit.

I need to completely rebuild the access database my
team is using.

This is something of a pet hate; coming in and finding
a DB (whatever platform) in a complete mess and having
to try and sort it out and add a whole ton of fields
and make it work and make sense.

This is particularly horrible in Access.

We need to have a LOT of information on the DB; we
have a lot of Forums and Mailing lists and Client
Groups that the people on our db have to be part of.
So for any single person on a DB, we need to know what
lists, forums and groups they should be in.

I'd prefer to sit down and build a whole new DB with
tables that I want in it.
Though I do need to read more about Access, cos Forms
and Tables confuse me slightly in Access. (Oh if only
I could use MySQL and build a front end in php!)

I'm vaguely considering hiding all of the actual data
so that the incompetents can't fiddle with it.
I could build a front end in VB that allows people to
update records and add records, and conduct queries.
It would also make conducting queries more easy for
the Access-illiterate.

Hmmm

Not sure if I'm looking for responses to this... just
burbling.
Though if anyone has any random ideas about how I
should design a crappy Access DB that will do what I
want it to...
Hehe
