I see your point luke but for those of us who are only just getting to
grips with css but need to do something NOW then it's just easier to to
what you know works quickly rather than spend hours and hours trying to
get css to behave.
I'm still going to try and learn css as I do think it will be better in
the long run but for now I will not be stopping the use of tables just
yet.
