Mind you, I've never understood why the HTML standard doesn't include a few
small features that would make 80%+ of the JavaScript unnecessary:
1) Simple client-side validation: field must be integer, field must be
alpha, or decimal... in fact, you could do all of it, and more besides, if
you could specify a regexp as an attribute of a field, and perhaps a range
check.
2) Alternate images for buttons etc- an image (which could be automatically
preloaded and cached) for mouse rollovers.
3) Combo boxes.
