Re: FN-FORUM: OT - anyone watch Questiontime last night

From another list:...
I've only been back a day and I'm already sick of hearing about "Live
8" (but I haven't heard the frog for 9 days!!) and it's political
agenda. Fair do's I don't know a great deal about the whole debt
problem and the history behind a lot of it but why should leaders be
allowed to screw up financially and then expect to be handed a golden
ticket just because they lack the ability to run their country
properly from a palace... maybe because their 18 wives are a
distraction?
They say 120,000 people die in Africa each month as a result of these
debts and the poverty it creates but if all these people lived
wouldn't the world be a tad busy? Perhaps stopping them breeding for
10 years might be a more valid way to save money and lives... they
have the energy to make sweet love but lack the enery to plough a
field or walk to a more sensible location in the world that has water
and a climate suitable for supporting themselves. I'm not being cruel
here or anything but a lot of Africa seems like a pretty stupid place
to try and live given it's reputation for drought and stuff, by now
you would have thought people might have moved on or refrained from
bringing more lives into the same conditions they have been living in.
And why is it always the rich ones who dictate who should spend money
or cancel debts, yeah Bonio / Gandalf, just out of interest if you
sent the money you spend on that suit to Africa how much difference
would it make?
Another thing... apparently poverty is one of the reasons 38 million
people have HIV and if we abolished debts to these countries they
could provide drugs to keep the infected alive for a further 20 years
or more.... so they can breed some more? So they can add to the
120,000 a month that will also survive and eventually choke the world
of resources.
Narrow minded perhaps, selfish and uninformed... probably... looking
forward to hearing dated performers who live in big houses and drive
flash cars from restaurant to restaurant being two faced and telling
me I should help those less fortunate... not at all.
