FN-FORUM: Online HTML WYSIWYG editor?
date posted 15th June 2005 15:52
Hi,
I've been looking around for an online WYSIWYG editor which I can use to
allow clients to edit their own site content.
After much looking on Hotscripts etc, I came up with SPAW which does
work, is GPL and only relatively cheap for a commercial licence.
The problem is after implementation, I have been having issues where
when a file is saved it seems to crash the webserver. It then takes 5
mins+ for the server to come back, during which time all my sites are
down (DNS error). Can't even log into FTP during that time.
I'm on Linux shared hosting via 1&1.
I had previously integrated SPAW into another online file manager, but
have even created my own mega basic file manager (20 line) to elimate
one end of things.
The ruddy thing still crashes the server.
Looking into things it appears that the crashes happen most on files
which have been edited a number of times. This said I've gone through
the HTML of the files being edited and nothing looks amiss.
My question is therefore...
1) Has anyone else got SPAW working without issue, or has experienced
the same problems. SPAW support claim (as you would expect with a
script) that it should not kill the server.
2) Any other reccomendations for an online WYSIWYG editor. The
attraction of SPAW was it was both easy to implement into other
applications and cheap (EUR 100 for an unlimited licence for one developer).
Any advice, much appreciated, as I've got 2 clients in the pipeline who
want such editing and at the mo I don't fancy giving them something
which will kill all my sites!
Cheers,
Chris.
