give up on Photoshop.

get yourself a copy of Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) and use its
batch/conversion tools - output can be any filetype, any color depth,
you can keep or remove any image metadata as well. (it's all in advanced
settings...) and if your conscience pricks you a single licence for
commercial use is $12 as far as I can see...
