Have you got one of those flashy keyboards (Microsoft for example)
with a button assigned to the calculator?
If so then it could be a faulty keyboard, a fault in the key mapping
software, or a virus...

I've got a problem. Whenever I type some letters or use carriage return, the
calculator launches, and continues to do so (it has just launched another 10
copies) and halts the typing.

That's what I'm going to do - just in access you can create a crosstab
query but I suspect that it then does stuff "internally" to work it into
a SQL statement anyway.
