Some providers (protx) provide the facility to authorise the card once
and to then allow that card to be used for recurring payments (but not
necessarily the same payment). I think you can also set a maximum spend
for the card as well before it "expires". You then store the
authorisation code rather than the card iteslef and a simple reference
to the card name e.g., "My Visa Card"
