Are you sure it is legitimate? Not just a way of getting a lot of phone
numbers and email addresses. Does your customer know the little boy's family
personally, or was the note forwarded by someone else?
It sounds a lot like this http://thefolklorist.com/chainletters/craig.htm
According to our very one regional development agency, it's a hoax

Subject: FN-FORUM: PERS: Guinness Book of Records Attempt
Morning all,
I have been sent by a good customer of mine the following letter:-
"John is a seven year old boy with terminal cancer. He is trying to enter
the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most compliment slips (one
per company)"
The letter goes on with instructions. Is there anyone on freelancers forum
that would like to be part of this attempt. If so I need you to contact me
off list with your company name and address so that I can forward the letter
on. I am looking for 10 participants in total.
Many thanks in advance
