Its typical social engineering, my favorite saying is, "What you are
percieved to be is more important to people than what you actually
are", and its very very true, even though some people deny they think
like that, in most cases, they actually do.
Your more likely to give information (or money, possessions, etc) to
someone wearing a suit approaching you with a polite manner and a
backstory, than you are to someone that looks as if they're homeless
and just begging, basically they're both asking for the exact same
thing.
I love stuff like this, has anyone ever read, "The Art of Deception"
by Kevin Mitnick? Its my kinda thing.
