You're probably using windows security to authenticate them and one has
permissions that the other doesn't.
Not sure if you can switch to SQL authentication for the little start /
stop applet, but yuou can certainly connect using Enterprise manager and
start / stop them.=20

Subject: FN-FORUM: Sql server problems
I have SQL server on both my Pc's which are attached to each other with
a cross over cable. On my back up PC I can restart both servers but on
my main PC I can only restart the one on that Pc. If I try and restart
the one on my Back up PC I get Access denied. Why and how do I get
access please.
Thanks
