I'd suggest reinstaling the SQL server tools on both machines. You
shouldn't really need to have sql server tools on both machines - just
have them on the master machine and connect that way. You might need to
set up both machines to allow both windows and sql server logins and
then create a sys admin type login for both (you could use the sa
account if they're just local)=20

How can I tell and how can I see what the permission are and change
them? I am pretty sure you right as I can't access remote sql servers
either. I also get "snap in failed to initialise" followed by a clsid
number for local users and groups when I access computer management in
the control panel. I don't know if that is part of the same problem but
I haven't a clue how to find out why. Google hasn't been any help.
