I would just try to get the fastest machine you can with 1Gb Ram.

Ideally also go for a dual monitor setup.

I have an old 1800XP Athalon based machine with 1GB ram and regularly
run with more than the equivalent of the CS suite running (Outlook,
VS.Net 2003, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, ImageReady, FireFox, IE, MS Word)
without problems although it is a little slow if continually flicking
between applications.

If colour is important, I would be inclined to steer clear of Plasma
screens, in my experience with them on Laptops they aren't that good at
rendering fine tints.
