FN-FORUM: To give up or not?

date posted 15th August 2005 18:56

Hey people

I'm in a bit of a dilemma at the moment ...

Basically I've been running Google AdSense mostly on the site, and
it's making me money but not as much as I would have liked. I also run
ValueClick ads sometimes, and they're a nice supplement to the Google
AdSense, but again, not as much. ;) It's basically not enough for me
to give up my day job and work full-time on the website.

The dilemma I have now is a sporting network called Vital Football
have gotten in touch with me over wanting to market Arsenal-Mania
under their network. They will drive the advertising and promotion of
the site, and all the data owned by them under that period. Any
advertising money made from this will be split half - 50%.

It seemed tempting at first, but I don't really want to let go - even
though they say that I will still have almost full control over the
site, I can't decide what it looks like or code the site. Everything
will also ride off their network backbone, which means that there's
less for me to do .. I don't want to let that go! I know it sounds
silly, but it's just the way I feel at the moment.

The money Vital are offering is also more than double the money I make
now, but that could be a rosy projection designed to tempt me - if you
know what I mean.

Aura Sports have now also gotten in touch with me over wanting to tag
the site with their ad campaigns. They seem to be pretty big in the
UK. With Aura it'll just be a straight advertising deal, but I'm not
sure how much I'll make with them, and they are obviously reluctant to
project any earnings eventhough I've provided them with ny page
impressions.

I have until next week to let Vital know, and the Aura Sports campaign
doesn't start till the end of August.

Do I take the risk and let go off guaranteed income (eventhough it
might not be an accurate estimate) or wait and see what Aura Sports
have to offer when their campaign starts at the end of August, which
by then I'd have lost the opportunity with Vital?

Any advice you seasoned heads can shove my way would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
