FN-FORUM: Internet Access to hosts on a fixed IP network
date posted 1st October 2005 14:00
Hi All,
Possibly a dumb question but here goes:
A friend asked me the other day how to go about connecting a fixed IP
network (operating through a single gigabit/T ethernet router) to the the
internet as broadband has just become available in the area. As I understand
it they have been connecting only a single computer to the internet on
narrowband up to now - but want all the hosts on the network to share a
common gateway.
Is there any way the existing router can be "internet enabled" - or would
this mean buying a new product entirely? Or can a broadband router be
connected into one of the ports on the router and somehow be locatable as an
internet gateway to the rest if the hosts on the network?
I know the answer is probably obvious, but I'm not too hot on network
architecture;)
Cheers
Rob
