Cool thanks everyone - will stay clear of the dodgy freelance sites!
As for VAT - it's soo confusing! I've got a mixture of VAT and non-VAT
registered clients so at present am 80% sure I DO want to volunteer for VAT
registration!
I've had other sole traders recommending the flat-rate scheme that Chris
mentions but I spoke to a business advisor this morning who said to do the
cash accounting scheme as I would end up "over-paying" with the flatrate
scheme!
Any preferences anyone?!
