Works OK on Safari 2 on OS X, bit it's ridiculously slow over a 2 meg
broadband connection.
I've had a look at one of the background images and it was around
75k. That's probably too big for a background image but there's no
way it should take 10 seconds to download on my connection - I can
usually download a 1 meg image in less time than your page takes to
load.
As you don't have any server side processing going on there I think
it might be worth looking at your hosting provider, as a slow server/
connection would be the next obvious thing that could have caused
that problem.
I found the change from lower case to caps on the menu a bit
confusing - and also - if you move your mouse pointer just on the
edge of a link it 'flip-flops' between the hover and non-hover state
because the area the text covers is slightly less with the caps.
I'd consider blurring the background images (ie the faded-out ones)
slightly to get rig of hard lines and aid legibility and also making
the text a little darker to increase the contrast.
