Yes, it's reasonable for them to _ask_.
If it had just gone into a savings account or ISA I'm sure he'd be =20
happy to give it back. But in this case my brother had spent the =20
money on Xmas presents that he otherwise wouldn't have done. If he =20
has to pay it all back then he would actually be worse off =20
financially than if he hadn't been given the money in the first =20
place. As it wasn't his mistake it seems unfair that he should be =20
the one that suffers financially.
