Well, if it were wages and they paid him an excess, they have a legal
entitlement to claim it back. However, if it is over 3 years (I think it's
3) then they have no cause for claiming it from him. Not very helpful huh?
But, in this case, I think it depends on how they gave him the money. They
may well have included it in his wages.
Even so, I think whatever they give an employee, whether a bonus or salary,
they can claim it back if it is over the contracted amount.

Trust me - he can't stand the job ;o) Ironically, the only person he
actually likes at his workplace is the guy that 'should' have got the
money. But he doesn't like his manager at all (bosses son - and are
right s*** by all accounts) so I don't think he'd lose any sleep over
it. It's just a case of knowing where he stands.
